Eugenia Da Silva Fernandes

Bio

Dr. Eugênia Fernandes is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Modern Languages. Her research focuses on Languages for Specific Purposes, with an emphasis on language learning for social mobility. She is particularly interested in the intersections of language with sustainability, diplomacy, law, and public policy. Her interest in sustainability informs one of her key collaborations with the Federal University of Acre in the Amazon region. She holds a Ph.D. in Portuguese Linguistics from the University of Brasília and works in the areas of curriculum development and language proficiency assessments. She serves as President of the American Organization of Teachers of Portuguese and collaborates closely with the Consulate General of Brazil in Miami.
