Bio

Dr. Irma T. Alonso received her PhD degree in Economics from the University of York, England, in 1969, and after teaching and sharing in the Department of Economics at the University of Puerto Rico, she joined FIU in 1977. She actively participates in Global Learning through her teaching of ECS 3021 Women, Culture, and Economic Development. This course has received various awards and it was the first FIU course to receive the prestigious Quality Matters recognition. Although Dr. Alonso retired from FIU in 2008 as Professor Emerita, she keeps actively participating in Global Learning and teaching her courses fully online.
