Workshops for Faculty Teaching GL-Designated Courses and Faculty Developing/Revising Courses for GL-Designation
The Office of Global Learning Initiatives conducts professional development workshops to advance interdisciplinary, problem-centered learning in FIU’s global learning (GL) courses and activities. Workshops are for faculty who are developing or revising courses for GL designation and faculty teaching GL-designated courses. Participants explore FIU’s global learning outcomes, authentic assessments, active learning strategies, and multi-perspective content that can be implemented almost immediately in courses and activities across the curriculum and co-curriculum.
- Faculty teaching GL-designated courses receive a $250 stipend* for attendance of the session and submission of their completed GL course assessment matrix. The matrix must be submitted at the end of the first semester the faculty member teaches the GL course following workshop attendance.
- Lead faculty developing/revising a course receive a $500 stipend* for attending the workshop and submitting their GL course proposal to the Faculty Senate Global Learning Curriculum Oversight Committee. In addition to the workshop, faculty meet individually with OGLI staff to develop and draft the proposal.
*Faculty who have previously received a GL workshop stipend are not eligible to receive a second stipend. Per university policy, Graduate Assistants, Teaching Assistants, and Research Assistants are not eligible to receive a stipend for this workshop.
