SOS: Students Offering Support

Developing Students at Home; Developing Communities Abroad

Students Offering Support (SOS) is an international charitable organization that empowers college and university students to raise grades while raising money. Student leaders help their peers pass exams to raise money for sustainable development projects, built by SOS volunteers on outreach trips to Latin America.  The Florida International University chapter is sponsored and advised by the Office of Global Learning Initiatives as a global co-curricular opportunity.

Raise grades while raising money, at FIU. SOS volunteers coordinate and lead Exam-AID group review sessions, helping students understand the material covered on their upcoming exam. By collecting donations from students who attend the exam reviews, money is raised to plan and execute service projects to Latin America. Since 2004, over 25,000 students have attended SOS Exam-AID review sessions, and last year alone, $300,000 was raised for development projects.

Raise roofs in Latin America. Each year, SOS chapters work with a rural community partners across Latin America to fund, coordinate, and implement sustainable development projects. Volunteers go on a two-week outreach trip during the summer to carry out the project that they funded on campus. This year, SOS is building 30 development projects on 28 different outreach trips.
